The Black Joy Retreat

The Black Joy Retreat, is a fun and affirming atmosphere for people of the African diaspora.

At the Black Joy Retreat, we create a safe and empowering space for Black individuals to heal from the effects of racial trauma. Racial trauma can cause psychological and emotional harm due to experiences of discrimination, violence, and oppression. Our retreat is designed to help you find joy, resilience, and community.

What to Expect:

  1. Healing in Nature: Immerse yourself in the healing power of nature. Outdoor recreation and natural surroundings provide therapeutic avenues to address racial trauma and violence.

  2. Centered on Joy: The three-day weekend is all about joy! We equip you with tools to care for yourself as you progress professionally. Because joy is essential for growth.

  3. Care Package & Commemorative T-Shirt: As a participant, you’ll receive a thoughtful care package and a special retreat t-shirt to commemorate your experience.

Join us at the Black Joy Retreat and let’s celebrate resilience, community, and the power of joy!

Presented by Race and Faith as a program of the Sankofa Project. This multi-day event crosses the outdoor recreational boundaries by inviting Black people to take up space in the “great outdoors.” Attendees of past Black Joy Retreats have found the opportunity to engage the outdoors in new ways with other Black people to be refreshing and liberating. The outdoor activities, combined with opportunities for relevant conversations, make this an energetic and unique 3-day weekend.

The Black Joy Retreat’s mission is to provide secure, enjoyable, and affirming getaways for Black individuals, as well as to foster a new generation of enthusiasts for the outdoors.
